Carla Ruta


Carla Ruta has 18 years’ experience in the humanitarian field and engaging armed State and non-State actors on international humanitarian and human rights law. Her ten years with the ICRC and four years with Geneva Call in Latin America, the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia have given her solid knowledge in analysing conflicts and conflict actors and of working in very volatile environments. She has extensive know-how in developing and facilitating training and dissemination of international norms to different audiences, including armed actors, communities, civil society actors and humanitarian practitioners. In addition, she has worked on community based protection projects in a number of contexts, among others with the ICRC in Colombia and Sudan, and designed Geneva Call’s Community-Based Protection guidelines. She currently works as Legal Advisor with the Swiss Armed Forces Staff.
