Dr Xu Peng is a postdoc researcher at SOAS University of London and an incoming Hallsworth Research Fellow at the Humanitarian and Conflict Response Institute, University of Manchester. Her research examines ethnic conflict, rebel governance, and digital illicit economies in the China–Southeast Asia borderlands. Her work has appeared in the Journal of Contemporary Asia, China Perspectives and Asian Studies Review, with articles forthcoming in Current History and others. She is developing two book projects on borderland statecraft in Southeast Asia and the politics of the digital illicit economy. Her expertise has also led to interviews with major international media outlets such as the BBC, Washington Post, and South China Morning Post, where she provides insights into Myanmar’s conflict dynamics and China’s foreign policy in Southeast Asia.
