Maiwen Ngalueth is a researcher and practitioner with over 15 years of experience in armed conflict, humanitarian action, peacebuilding and international development, with experience working on different countries across Africa and the MENA region. His areas of interest bridge research, policy and practice, with particular interests in armed groups, security sector governance and reform, rebel diplomacy, the humanitarian-development-peace nexus, and questions of territorial contestation.

Prior to joining the Centre on Conflict, Development and Peacebuilding (CCDP), Maiwen spent more than eight years with Geneva Call in different capacities, engaging armed groups and other de facto authorities on their conduct towards civilians and working extensively with diplomatic missions, international organisations and humanitarian actors to enhance the protection of civilians. His experience spans Sudan, South Sudan, Libya, Yemen, Chad, Cameroon, DRC, Nigeria and the wider Sahel. He previously worked with MSF, the ICRC, UNHCR and the Enough Project, and has established and led non-profit initiatives in South Sudan and Switzerland focused on peacebuilding and advocacy on refugee issues.

Maiwen holds a Master’s degree in International Affairs, specialising in Global Security, from the Geneva Graduate Institute, and a Master’s degree in Humanitarian Studies from the University of Geneva. He is currently starting his doctoral research on “rebel diplomacy”.

In addition to English, Maiwen speaks Arabic, French, and Dinka.
